About me
I’m Joseph, a British tenor studying for a Master of Arts in Music Performance as a singer at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana, where I study singing with Robert Murray.
Alongside my studies, I have become increasingly involved in representing student concerns and pushing for practical improvements at the Conservatorio. You can see some of the results of that work from last year in the Achievements section below.

2025/26
Achievements
1. 13 singers, one collective voice
I helped organise a seven-point petition signed by 13 singing students, bringing shared concerns about representation, coaching, performance opportunities, masterclasses, the curriculum and timetabling directly to the Conservatorio’s leadership.
2. Three meetings, real follow-up
I took those proposals forward in meetings with Francesco Bossaglia, Lorenzo Micheli and Brunella Clerici, turning written feedback into direct discussion with the people responsible for the relevant areas.
3. More performance opportunities for singers
I pushed for more performance opportunities for singers, including an opera production and a choral concert featuring student soloists. Brunella Clerici expressed interest in the choral project and asked for repertoire proposals to take the idea further, while Francesco Bossaglia has since informed me that The Turn of the Screw by Benjamin Britten will be staged this year.

Ho contribuito a organizzare una petizione in sette punti, firmata da 13 studenti di canto, portando direttamente alla direzione del Conservatorio richieste comuni su rappresentanza, coaching, opportunità di esibizione, masterclass, curriculum e orari.
2. Tre incontri, un seguito concreto
Ho portato avanti queste proposte incontrando Francesco Bossaglia, Lorenzo Micheli e Brunella Clerici, trasformando il feedback scritto in un confronto diretto con i responsabili delle diverse aree.
3. Più opportunità di esibizione per i cantanti
Ho promosso maggiori opportunità di esibizione per i cantanti, tra cui una produzione operistica e un concerto corale con studenti solisti. Brunella Clerici ha espresso interesse per il progetto corale e ha chiesto proposte di repertorio per sviluppare ulteriormente l’idea, mentre Francesco Bossaglia mi ha successivamente informato che The Turn of the Screw di Benjamin Britten andrà in scena quest’anno.

A voice in the decisions that shape the Conservatorio
At the end of each seminar, students are already asked to give feedback, but it is not always clear what happens afterwards. I would like greater transparency around how that feedback is considered, what changes are made as a result, and why some changes may not be possible.
Una voce nelle decisioni che danno forma al Conservatorio
Alla fine di ogni seminario, agli studenti viene già chiesto di dare un feedback, ma non è sempre chiaro cosa succeda in seguito. Vorrei una maggiore trasparenza su come questo feedback viene preso in considerazione, quali cambiamenti vengono introdotti di conseguenza e perché alcune modifiche potrebbero non essere possibili.

More variety, more often
I enjoyed events last year such as the new BarCollando karaoke night at Bar Corallo, as well as established CSI events like Halloween in Aula 201. I would like to build on these with a greater variety of events, in different locations and with different formats. I would also like CSI-hosted events to happen more frequently, including around Halloween, Christmas and Easter.

Mi sono piaciuti gli eventi dell’anno scorso, come la nuova serata karaoke BarCollando al Bar Corallo, insieme agli eventi già organizzati al CSI, come Halloween in Aula 201. Vorrei ampliare queste iniziative con una maggiore varietà di eventi, in luoghi diversi e con formule differenti. Vorrei inoltre che gli eventi eventi che si tengono al CSI fossero più frequenti, anche in occasione di Halloween, Natale e Pasqua.

More chances to perform
I want to create more opportunities for students to perform and collaborate outside their regular classes. This could include student-led recital series, chamber music projects and other performances organised through ASSUML, giving students more chances to share their work and perform with one another.

Vorrei creare più occasioni per gli studenti di esibirsi e collaborare al di fuori delle normali attività didattiche.
